This is our moment.
I’m proud to be supported by the Ohio Delegation, and from across the country, party leaders, labor members, grassroots advocates, college students, teachers, civil rights activists, faith leaders, colleagues and the Culture.
Count Us In Action Plan
I am Joyce Beatty and I am committed to being a part of a coalition of strong leaders in a new era, designing the future of the Democratic party. As Vice Chair of Civic Engagement and Voter Participation, my strategy will focus on building year-round, meaningful connections with voters often overlooked or not included—working-class Americans, young people, Hispanic, LGBTQ+, and Black communities, and those disconnected from the political process. Under my leadership, the DNC will ensure that Every Voice, Every Vote, Every Moment Counts.
To bring this mission to life, my team and I will designate specialized teams led by dedicated leaders to focus on four (4) key initiatives called our Count Us In Action Plan.
1.Nationwide Civic Hackathons
Goal: Develop tools, programs and innovative ideas to enhance voter engagement and education.
What is a Hackathon? A hackathon is an intensive brainstorming event where participants—often developers, designers, and thinkers—collaborate on creative solutions over a short period, typically ranging from a day to a weekend.
Actions: Host an annual event to brainstorm and prototype new approaches for simplifying voter registration and educational campaigns. Build connections with think tanks, coalitions and academic institutions to support ongoing dialogue and refine the ideas generated during these events.
2. Training and Fellowships
Goal: Empower community leaders to lead voter engagement initiatives.
Actions: Establish a fellowship program that recruits, trains, and deploys civic leaders across the country to conduct voter registration drives, educational seminars, and community forums. Recruit and train leaders to run local voter drives and educational seminars, and provide resources to implement tailored local campaigns.
3. Youth Empowerment and Voter Activations
Goal: Boost civic engagement and mobilize young voters to amplify efforts that are already making a difference on the ground.
Actions: Launch a series of on-campus tours at high schools and colleges, aimed at educating young people, starting at age 17. This will include voter registration drives and “train the trainer” workshops for local groups working to increase voter turnout and participation among young people. Implement targeted digital campaigns and utilize social media strategies to connect with young adults.
4. Base Vote Media Program
Goal: Re-energize the Democratic base by revitalizing grassroots campaigns, local chapter activities and advocate for increased media and messaging spending to increase voter participation.
What is the Base Vote Media Program? This program focuses on utilizing new media and messaging to ready and turnout the "Base Vote”. We will utilize strategies and technologies to better connect with core Democratic voters and civic organizations, labor unions, civil rights organizations, coalitions, and faith-based groups.
Actions: Host frequent tele-townhalls using new media platforms and other experiential activations to engage a wide audience and gather real-time feedback on pressing issues. Focus on personalized, data-driven outreach efforts to tailor messages that resonate within the base. Help organize "Base Building Days," where local party offices open their doors for community events. Advocate for increased spending on messaging and funding initiatives specifically designed to boost voter turnout and energize the base vote.
These initiatives under the twin focuses of civic engagement and voter participation are designed to create a more inclusive, active, and transparent electoral environment that respects and reflects the diverse voices across America.
